11 May 2012 The 7th EUATC international conference
The 7th EUATC (European Union of Associations of Translation Companies) international conference was held on 26-27 April in Helsinki. The two-day conference was organised in cooperation with EUATC's Finnish member association SKTOL, and the main theme of the conference was innovation and new business models in the changing business environment. Multidoc took part in the conference and was also one of the active organising forces behind the event.
The conference presentations addressed the current market scene, social media marketing of the language industry, webinars, international sales and the latest developments in machine translation. Among the speakers were translation industry experts such as Anne-Marie Colliander Lind of Inkrease, and Common Sense Advisory's Ben Sargent. The programme also featured workshops organised by the conference sponsors and a charity raffle for Translators without Borders.
Approximately 120 translation industry professionals from all over the world took part in the conference, which offered a great networking platform for delegates as well as plenty of new ideas and discussions that will contribute to the translation industry's future.
11 April 2012 Multidoc chosen as the provider of translations for Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities
The Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities (AFLRA) has chosen Multidoc to provide its translations in a project that explores the best practices of European municipalities, mainly Swedish, Austrian and German, and how they can be utilised in Finnish municipalities. The translation agreement is valid until the end of June 2013.
Multidoc provides AFLRA with translations from German, Swedish and French into Finnish and vice versa as well as from Finnish into English. The materials to be translated include instructions, plans and reports related to municipality planning and governance, and promoting equality between women and men. Multidoc also provides AFLRA with consultation in order to be able to evaluate the original text materials and identify the elements that need translation.
During the competitive bidding process, AFLRA stated that the quality of the translations is a significant factor when choosing the translation partner. The experience of translating German texts was emphasised in the selection process as well as relevant knowledge of German and Finnish municipality functions and terminology, among other factors.
24 November 2011 Multidoc provides translations into immigrant languages
The City of Mikkeli, Etelä-Savon Koulutus Oy and the Regional Council of Etelä-Savo have selected Multidoc as their translation provider in a competitive bidding process that was organised in order to find a reliable expert in immigrant languages.
The parties have signed a framework agreement that is valid until 31 May 2014 and which covers translation services for Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Bosnian, Serbo-Croatian, English, French, Spanish, Russian and Estonian. Multidoc has been chosen as a translation supplier for several other immigrant projects, which has underpinned its experience in providing translation services in Chinese, Somali, Thai, Vietnamese, Czech, Ukrainian and Slovak, among others.
During the agreement period, the biggest user of translation services will be the City of Mikkeli Immigrant Services, but translation services will also be required in the ESF project Immigrants on the way to employment in South Savo, administered by Etelä-Savon Koulutus Oy between 2008 and 2013. Project materials such as brochures, guides and web pages produced for immigrants and refugees will be translated into several languages.
26 September 2011 Multidoc to move to new premises on 5 October 2011
Multidoc is to move to new premises in October. New spacious office premises are being renovated for Multidoc's project managers and in-house translators in the Patria building (Naulakatu 3) where Multiprint's Tampere printing office is already located.
”Working together under the same roof, we will be able to create even more synergy and quickly find solutions for our clients' needs in the field of multilingual communication, DTP and printing. This is a clear advantage both to us and our clients”, says Tampere Regional Manager Niko Malinen.
Moving into a bigger office also meets the space requirements of the expanding Multidoc team of professionals. Close to the Tampere city centre in Naulakatu you can soon find the Multiprint printing office and shop as usual, as well as a competent translation agency. 17 June 2011 Multidoc takes part in the Nordterm 2011 Assembly

Multidoc participated in the Nordterm 2011 Assembly on 7-10 June, 2011 in Vaasa, Finland. The assembly was organised by Nordterm, an association of organisations and societies in the Nordic countries engaged in terminology work, training and research. The main theme of the conference was Samarbetet ger resultat: från begreppskaos till överenskomna termer (Cooperation gives results: from concept chaos to term recommendations).
The event was organised at the University of Vaasa, and it offered speeches and presentations on terminology research and current practical terminology projects in both public administration and in private enterprises. Some examples of the guest speakers include Mikael af Hällström (Finnish Tax Administration), head of the JHS Public Administration terminology project, and Rute Costa (Centro de Linguística da Universidade Nova de Lisboa), a research professor from Lisbon, Portugal.
Multidoc participated in the conference and also in the terminology workshop for terminologists. The Nordterm Assembly was an interesting opportunity for interaction between professional field experts and terminologists. Terminology research and management is developed enthusiastically in the Nordic countries, and as an international language service provider Multidoc is strongly connected to the terminology field and acts as an expert in many terminology-related projects. Multidoc's aim is to emphasize the importance of terminology management on the route to fluent communication and to help its clients develop their information management with effective terminology work.

16 May 2011 Multidoc translates collective agreements
Multidoc has signed an agreement on translation services with the Board for Ratification of the Validity of Collective Agreements who works under the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. According to the agreement, during the year 2011 Multidoc will translate 85 binding collective agreements from Finnish into Swedish.
The translation project comprises nearly a million words, and as well as this Multidoc will perform extensive terminology research related to the translation of collective agreements. The Finnish terminology relevant to the translation work and the Swedish equivalents will be compiled in a terminology database, where they will be accessible to all experts working on the translation project. Using the terminology database in connection with the translation memory tools will ensure the accuracy and coherence of terminology in all translations. In a large translation project this is undoubtedly one of the keys to a high quality end result.
The Swedish translations of the collective agreements will be published in the Finnish legislation database Finlex.

18 October 2010 International Translation Day 2010 seminar in Tampere on 1 October
The expert seminar organised at the University of Tampere offered a number of interesting presentations and debates about the prerequisites of high-quality translations. This year's theme, ”Translation Quality for a Variety of Voices”, attracted a good turnout of translation industry representatives, including students, freelance translators, entrepreneurs, teachers, and translation agency professionals. The seminar also showcased speakers from across the translation industry, from teachers, translators and translation coordinators to a Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration who had studied the industry from a client's point of view. The concept of quality was discussed in every presentation. The general consensus seemed to be that a quality translation is the outcome of a high-quality translation process and the combined effort of a translator, proofreader, and translation coordinator.
In his presentation, Ilkka Sihvola, the Tender Consultant of Hansel Ltd, provided some figures and feedback from the current agreement period regarding the translation and interpreting services for the Finnish Government. The nationwide tendering process for translation services in 2008 was the first of its kind, and it provided Hansel valuable experiences that can be used to improve future tendering processes, allowing Hansel to serve both the translation industry and their public administration clients better. According to Sihvola, clients have been pleased with the clear and explicit operations model and terms of contract as well as the extensive service portfolio.
The annual International Translation Day event is organised by Käännösalan asiantuntijat ry, the Finnish Association of Translators and Interpreters, and the Association of Finnish Translation Companies.
1 September 2010 Multidoc and the City of Oulu to increase co-operation
Multidoc won the City of Oulu Department of Education's tender for translation services. The Department of Education called for tenders for the translation services of their ESF-funded guidance and counselling programme for young immigrants. The tender covered several immigrant languages, including Russian, Arabic, Kurdish, Vietnamese, Thai, and Persian.
The Department of Education and Multidoc signed a three-year agreement covering all the required translation and proofreading services for the programme.
Multidoc's earlier agreements with the City of Oulu include translation services for the Homelike Oulu – make Oulu your own programme. As well as immigrant languages, this agreement also covers English and French and is also used by other City of Oulu departments. The City of Oulu has already exercised their option to extend the agreement for a period of twelve months, and will probably further extend it to cover 2011.
Multidoc's key strengths in the tendering process were its wide selection of languages, the high quality of its translations, and flexibility.
12 July 2010 Multidoc expands its service portfolio
Multidoc's owner, Multiprint Oy, merged with Karhukopio Oy on 1 January 2010, becoming the largest provider of printing and communications services in Finland. Overlapping ownership issues and other ownership arrangements have now been completed, and the expanded Group continues to enjoy even more success.
Multidoc customers see the organisational changes as a more extensive service portfolio – the strengthened organisation allows us to provide our customers a wider range of printing services as well as more cost-effective solutions. In addition, the translation, documentation, and DTP services offered by Multidoc are now more readily available for both new and existing Multiprint customers. 18 June 2010 Multidoc now offers more cost-effective software localisation
Multidoc has increased its competence in the field of localisation services. Localisation projects will now be managed with the most up-to-date localisation tools that allow us to localise software without any file conversions. Software localisation can be carried out visually, and thus we can provide you with a turn-key solution and fully functional, target culture oriented localised software.
18 June 2010 Value added tax to change on 1 July 2010
The standard VAT rate 22% will be raised to 23%. The new rate will come into force on 1 July 2010, and Multidoc's products and services are subject to the change.
All products and services delivered on and after 1 July 2010 are subject to VAT 23%.
We have simplified the transition by updating our IT systems and informing our personnel of the change. We will also add a note of the VAT change to our invoices.
